Dr. Dave Tough Music Production Scholarship, Testamentary Gift

How did you first decide to be involved with Belmont University?

I began as an adjunct in 2005 and was hired as a visiting professor in 2006. I began my full-time appointment a year later. I fell in love with the Christian message, the students, the coursework, the facilities, the campus and my wonderful and accomplished co-workers, so I decided to stay!

What about your experience as a faculty member at Belmont inspired this gift?

Like many other instructors at Belmont, I give my time and talent daily to our students through my classroom teaching and advising. However, I strongly feel as though my students have given me so much more, watching them magnify their talents and reach their God-given potential while here.

Why do you want to support Belmont?

I want to empower our students to be creators and in doing so reflect God’s image as the ultimate Creator. It is my passion to help our creative students achieve their goals and dreams. I would like to keep supporting these students and their dreams after I am gone. Additionally, Dr. Fisher, Dr. Burns and Belmont as a whole gave me tremendous support during my heart transplant two years ago.  I want to give back to the institution as well.

Why are you supporting scholarships specifically?

I realize finances are sometimes a consideration for gifted students who chose Belmont over other institutions. However, I strongly believe in the creative and innovative talent that Belmont fosters. I like to tell others that we are the hub of entertainment education; “the Harvard of the music business.” Our students have so much talent and potential that is nurtured and encouraged while they are here.  It is rare for “creative types” to find a place where they feel safe and can foster community with other creatives. I want to support that.

Why would you encourage others to give to Belmont?

I encourage other faculty to support an area of study at Belmont you love and believe in. We are so blessed to teach at this institution.
