How did you first become aware of/involved with Belmont University?
Belmont University helped change my life. I’ve been so blessed and to be able to help and/or infuse in other people’s lives is important to me. Our office is filled with Belmont grads!
Why do you want to support Belmont?
Bob Mulloy who started the music business program was a major influence in my life. He believed in students and he believed in me. To me and many others, he helped make Belmont University famous and what it is today. The music business today would not be the same without Bob Mulloy. If I can some way pay that forward, then it’s important to do so. Anywhere I go in the U.S. and people know Belmont, they always mention the music business program first.
What about your experience as a student at Belmont inspired this gift?
I was fortunate to have a family that could afford to send me to Belmont. So many others can’t. I continue to be blessed by Belmont University graduates who are now with the company, and it’s my mission to have them help continue to carry the torch and pass it on down. Belmont provided professors and classes that helped me prepare for the real world. There are professors like Steve Moore who taught concert promotion who I continue to do business with today. In fact, anytime my client Kenny Chesney plays the Nashville market Steve is part of that. There are also peers of mine in the industry who I work with on a regular basis who attended Belmont at the same time I did. Mike Betterton, who is president of our agency, and I have worked together 23 years and was the first person I met on Belmont’s campus. It’s like God meant for this to be.
Why would you encourage others to give to Belmont?
I guess I encourage others who can to give for the same reasons I try and do. In life, everything is on loan from God, so we should all feel the responsibility to help others and forge the way.
